Look, am I excited that Nintendo has finally released an official first look at the Nintendo Switch successor? Of course, I am! But I have to admit that a certain part of me — -a petty, vindictive part — -was hoping that the big N would double down on their silence in the face of the regular, dubious “leaks” that have become a daily occurrence over the past couple of months… and then release something that looked nothing like the unofficial preview coverage with some convoluted new name.
Instead, we get the Switch 2, and it seems to be pretty much what we expected. There’s a bigger screen with smaller bezels, a lithe kickstand, extra USB ports for easy access, and larger, more grippable Joy-Cons that seemingly connect without the fragile rail system of the current product. Backward compatibility is also confirmed for both physical and digital Switch titles, which is always a nice touch.
(Misplaced schadenfreude aside, I am positively giddy!)
Other than that? Well, we’re simply told to tune into the “Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2–4.2.2025,” which will air — — unsurprisingly — -on Wednesday, April 2.
